One round stone, ringed in light

In 1893 Henri Moissan pulled bright crystals from an Arizona meteorite crater and misread them. Today that mineral is grown in a lab. One round stone of it sits in a halo on this chain.

Something hit Arizona

An iron meteorite struck the high desert and left a crater three quarters of a mile across. It is still there.

The chemist who first isolated fluorine, and who would win the Nobel Prize for it, began sifting fragments from the crater.

Eleven years of work proved them silicon carbide. In 1905 George Kunz named the mineral moissanite, after him.

Dispersion is how much color a stone throws. Moissanite throws more than a diamond does.

Two colourless round brilliant stones under one light. The stone on the left throws saturated orange, green and violet fire. The stone on the right stays cool and white.

Small on purpose

Still, it is a fine line of chain with one round halo at the front. Move your wrist and the center breaks into color.

Questions

Before you choose

Is moissanite just a fake diamond?+
No. It is its own mineral — silicon carbide — first found by Henri Moissan in an Arizona meteorite crater in 1893. It is not an imitation of anything, and it throws more fire than a diamond does: 0.104 against 0.044. The one at the center of this halo was grown in a lab, never mined.
Will it fit?+
It adjusts. There is an extension chain, and the clasp fastens into the extension chain, so it can sit snug or a little loose. If you are unsure about your wrist, email us before you order and a person will answer.
What is on the chain?+
One halo, and nothing else. At its center, a round moissanite, ringed by small moissanites inside a round silver rim. It is set in line with the chain, so it lies flat on top of the wrist. Then plain fine cable chain to a small round clasp.
Will it tarnish? How do I care for it?+
It is 925 sterling silver, and silver can dull with time; perfume, lotion and pool water hurry it. Put it on last, take it off for pools and the sea, wipe it with a soft cloth, and keep it in its box between wears.
Is it for every day, or for occasions?+
Every day first. One small halo on a fine chain stays out of the way at a desk or a steering wheel. It suits a wedding wrist, a bride's or a bridesmaid's, and it is fine enough to keep wearing on the Tuesday after.
When will it arrive, and what if it is not right?+
Free and tracked, to the US and worldwide. It ships within 2 to 5 business days, then allow 6 to 10 business days for delivery in the US; international orders can take a little longer. Then 30 days to send it back unworn in its box for a refund; return postage is yours.
How do I reach you, or order more than two?+
Email info@mossante.com. A person answers, usually within one working day. Write to the same address for a larger order or a change to your order. If it is a gift, tell us and we will leave the prices off the paperwork.
