In 1893 Henri Moissan pulled bright crystals from an Arizona meteorite crater and misread them. Today that mineral is grown in a lab. Five stones of it, a heart at the center, hang from this chain.

Before you choose

Is moissanite just a fake diamond?+
No. It is its own mineral — silicon carbide — first found by Henri Moissan in an Arizona meteorite crater in 1893. It is not an imitation of anything, and it throws more fire than a diamond does: 0.104 against 0.044. Ours is grown in a lab. Nothing is mined for it.
Where does it sit, and will it fit?+
The chain is 43 cm, about 17 inches, so the five stones rest at the collarbone. A 5 cm extension lets it sit a little lower, and the lobster clasp fastens anywhere along it. If you are giving it, you do not need to know her size.
Gold plated or silver: which one?+
Look at what she already wears. If her earrings and rings are warm-toned, choose gold plated. If they are white, choose silver, which is rhodium finished. Underneath, both are the same 925 sterling silver necklace with the same five stones. If you cannot decide, the pair can be one of each.
Will the plating wear? How do I care for it?+
Both are plated finishes over 925 sterling silver: rhodium-white, or gold plated. Plating wears with time, and perfume, lotion and pool water hurry it. Put it on last, take it off for pools and the sea, wipe it with a soft cloth, and keep it in its box.
Is it for every day, or for occasions?+
Every day first. Five small stones on a fine box chain sit inside a shirt collar or above a sweater and stay out of the way. A heart is the shape for an anniversary, a birthday or Valentine's Day, and it is fine enough to keep wearing on the Tuesday after.
