The Mossante Petal Necklace

Four stones. One small flower.

In 1893 Henri Moissan pulled bright crystals from an Arizona meteorite crater and misread them. Today that mineral is grown in a lab. Four stones of it make one small flower.

Four lab-grown moissanites, claw set, on 925 sterling silver. Petite or Classic, silver or gold plated.

Something hit Arizona

An iron meteorite struck the high desert and left a crater three quarters of a mile across. It is still there.

The chemist who first isolated fluorine, and who would win the Nobel Prize for it, began sifting fragments from the crater.

Eleven years of work proved them to be silicon carbide. In 1905 George Kunz named the mineral moissanite, after him.

Dispersion is how much colour a stone throws. Moissanite throws more than a diamond does.

Two colourless round brilliant stones under one light. The stone on the left throws saturated orange, green and violet fire. The stone on the right stays cool and white.

Questions

Before you choose

Is moissanite just a fake diamond?+
No. It is its own mineral — silicon carbide — first found by Henri Moissan in an Arizona meteorite crater in 1893. It is not an imitation of anything, and it throws more fire than a diamond does: 0.104 against 0.044. These four stones were grown in a lab, never mined.
Petite or Classic: which one?+
The same flower in two sizes, on a fine cable chain. The Petite is the smaller: quiet, easy under a collar, for every day. The Classic is the larger, and its four stones catch the light from further away. The pair can be one of each.
Silver or gold plated: which one?+
Look at what you already wear, or what she does. Warm-toned rings and earrings sit well with gold plated; white ones with silver. Both are 925 sterling silver underneath, with the same four stones. If you cannot decide, the pair can be one of each.
Will the plating wear? How do I care for it?+
The gold plated finish is plated over 925 sterling silver, and plating wears with time; perfume, lotion and pool water hurry it. Sterling silver can darken in air, and a soft cloth brings it back. Put it on last, take it off for pools and the sea, and keep it in its box.
Is it for every day, or for occasions?+
Every day first. One small flower on a fine chain sits inside a shirt collar or above a sweater and stays out of the way. It suits a wedding morning, a birthday or a graduation, and it is small enough to keep wearing on the Tuesday after.
When will it arrive, and what if it is not right?+
Free and tracked, to the US and worldwide. It ships within 2 to 5 business days, then allow 6 to 10 business days for delivery in the US; international orders can take a little longer. Then 30 days to send it back unworn in its box for a refund; return postage is yours.
How do I reach you, or order more than two?+
Email info@mossante.com. A person answers, usually within one working day. Write to the same address for a larger order or a change to your order. If it is a gift, tell us and we will leave the prices off the paperwork.
