The Mossante Seven Stone Necklace

Seven stones. One curve of light.

In 1893 Henri Moissan pulled bright crystals from an Arizona meteorite crater and misread them. Today that mineral is grown in a lab. Seven stones of it sit in one curve on this chain.

Something hit Arizona

An iron meteorite struck the high desert and left a crater three quarters of a mile across. It is still there.

The chemist who first isolated fluorine, and who would win the Nobel Prize for it, began sifting fragments from the crater.

Eleven years of work proved them to be silicon carbide. In 1905 George Kunz named the mineral moissanite, after him.

The stones are grown in a lab, never mined. Seven sit edge to edge in one curve, two prongs each, the three largest in the middle.

Each end stone carries a small loop, and the chain's last link passes through it, so the row cannot slide along the chain.

Dispersion is how much color a stone throws. Moissanite throws more than a diamond does.

Two colourless round brilliant stones under one light. The stone on the left throws saturated orange, green and violet fire. The stone on the right stays cool and white.

How it wears

One small curve of light

Questions

Before you choose

Is moissanite just a fake diamond?+
No. It is its own mineral — silicon carbide — first found by Henri Moissan in an Arizona meteorite crater in 1893. It is not an imitation of anything, and it throws more fire than a diamond does: 0.104 against 0.044. The stones on this necklace are grown in a lab, never mined.
Where does it sit, and will it fit?+
The row is joined to the chain at both ends, so the seven stones sit as one small curve at the front of the neck and cannot slide along the chain. It fastens at the back. If you want the exact chain length before you order, email info@mossante.com and a person will answer, usually within one working day.
What is it actually made of?+
Seven round lab-grown moissanites set edge to edge in one gentle curve: a small stone at each end, a medium one next to it, and three large stones at the center, each held by two prongs. The row is joined at both ends to a fine cable chain. The metal is 925 sterling silver.
Will it tarnish? How do I care for it?+
Sterling silver can darken with time, and perfume, lotion and pool water hurry it. Put it on last, take it off for pools and the sea, wipe it with a soft cloth, and keep it in its box.
Is it for every day, or for occasions?+
Every day first. Seven stones in one short curve on a fine chain sit inside an open collar or over a crew neck and stay out of the way. It suits a birthday, an anniversary or a wedding morning, and it is fine enough to keep wearing on the Tuesday after.
When will it arrive, and what if it is not right?+
Free and tracked, to the US and worldwide. It ships within 2 to 5 business days, then allow 6 to 10 business days for delivery in the US; international orders can take a little longer. Then 30 days to send it back unworn in its box for a refund; return postage is yours.
How do I reach you, or order more than two?+
Email info@mossante.com. A person answers, usually within one working day. Write to the same address for a larger order or a change to your order. If it is a gift, tell us and we will leave the prices off the paperwork.
