The Mossante Sweetheart Necklace laid on a warm cream ground: a fine silver cable chain running out to both sides from one curved row of seven heart-shaped moissanites, the largest heart at the center and the others stepping down in size to each end, every heart point-down in its own prongs.

The Mossante Sweetheart Necklace

Seven hearts. The largest in the middle.

In 1893 Henri Moissan pulled bright crystals from an Arizona meteorite crater and misread them. Today that mineral is grown in a lab. Seven hearts of it hang in one curve from this chain.

Something hit Arizona

An iron meteorite struck the high desert and left a crater three quarters of a mile across. It is still there.

The chemist who first isolated fluorine, and who would win the Nobel Prize for it, began sifting fragments from the crater.

Eleven years of work proved them to be silicon carbide. In 1905 George Kunz named the mineral moissanite, after him.

Moissanite against diamond

Dispersion is how much color a stone throws. Moissanite throws more than a diamond does.

Two colourless round brilliant stones under one light. The stone on the left throws saturated orange, green and violet fire. The stone on the right stays cool and white.

Questions

Before you choose

Is moissanite just a fake diamond?+
No. It is its own mineral — silicon carbide — first found by Henri Moissan in an Arizona meteorite crater in 1893. It is not an imitation of anything, and it throws more fire than a diamond does: 0.104 against 0.044. The stones on this necklace are grown in a lab, never mined.
How does it sit, and will it fit?+
The seven hearts hang in one small curve at the center of a fine cable chain, points down, so the largest heart sits in the middle of the neckline. For the exact chain length before you order, email us; a person answers, usually within one working day.
What is it actually made of?+
Seven heart-cut lab-grown moissanites in one curved row, the largest at the center and the others stepping down in size to each end, each held in its own prongs. A fine cable chain runs from each end of the row. All of it is 925 sterling silver.
Will it tarnish? How do I care for it?+
Sterling silver can darken with time, and perfume, lotion and pool water hurry it. Put it on last, take it off for pools and the sea, wipe it with a soft cloth, and keep it in its box.
Is it for every day, or for occasions?+
Every day first. Seven small hearts on a fine chain sit inside a shirt collar or above a sweater and stay out of the way. Hearts suit an anniversary, a birthday or Valentine's Day, and it is fine enough to keep wearing on the Tuesday after.
When will it arrive, and what if it is not right?+
Free and tracked, to the US and worldwide. It ships within 2 to 5 business days, then allow 6 to 10 business days for delivery in the US; international orders can take a little longer. Then 30 days to send it back unworn in its box for a refund; return postage is yours.
How do I reach you, or order more than two?+
Email info@mossante.com. A person answers, usually within one working day. Write to the same address for a larger order or a change to your order. If it is a gift, tell us and we will leave the prices off the paperwork.
